International Forum On Critical Minerals 2025

Event: International Forum On Critical Minerals 2025 Date: May 12 (Mon)~May 13 (Tue), 2025 Location: Conrad Seoul, Korea Host: HYU-GETPPP   On May 12~May 13, 2025, the International Forum on Critical Minerals 2025 (INFOCM 2025), which discussed the latest technology trends and global cooperation strategies in the field of critical minerals, was held in Seoul. This forum covered key agendas ranging from the exploration of critical minerals to utilization technologies and the stabilization of global supply chains. Students from HYU-GETPPP also participated. In-depth discussions took place, featuring keynote lectures by prominent domestic and international experts, as well as sessions sharing the critical mineral status of various countries. As the importance of critical minerals, essential for future industries, continues to grow, we hope this forum served as a valuable opportunity for the students to broaden their knowledge in the relevant fields and explore new collaboration opportunities.

Seoul Energy Dream Center Field Trip

Event: Seoul Energy Dream Center Field Trip Date: April 17, 2025. (Thu) Location: Seoul Energy Dream Center Host: Seoul Energy Dream Center, HYU-GETPPP     On April 17, 2025, we visited the Seoul Energy Dream Center to gain hands-on experience and deeper understanding of energy independence and the importance of renewable energy. Located in Mapo-gu, Seoul, the center is the nation’s first zero-energy public building and serves as a leading space for climate action and energy transition education.   During the visit, we explored various sustainable features of the center, including its environmentally conscious architectural design, solar and geothermal energy systems, high-efficiency insulation, and natural ventilation. These elements offered a vivid example of what a carbon-neutral building can look like in practice. Through the center’s educational program, we were also able to reflect on the current climate and energy crisis, and learn in depth about renewable energy solutions and sustainable architecture as pathways to energy independence.   This visit was a valuable opportunity to consider the direction we must take to build more sustainable cities. The Seoul Energy Dream Center stands out as a place where citizens can relax and recharge while naturally learning about energy transition and sustainability—highlighting the importance of accessible and engaging public education spaces in our collective journey toward a greener future.

2025 Inter-Asian Exchange Program-ESG for Sustainable Development

Event: 2025 Inter-Asian Exchange Program-ESG for Sustainable Development Date: April 11, 2025 (Fri)  Location: Hwaseong Eco Center & SuperBin IAM Factory  Host: Hwaseong City, Hwaseong Sustainable Development Council, Suwon University, Suwon University Green Leadership Center, Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, HYU-GETPPP   On April 11, 2025, we visited Hwaseong Eco Center and SuperBin IAM Factory, two leading environmental education institutions in Hwaseong, to deepen our understanding of circular economy practices and highlight the importance of local environmental education. This visit was designed to explore effective directions for environmental education that supports sustainable communities through high-quality experiential learning.   At Hwaseong Eco Center, we participated in an educational program focused on circular economy and community cooperation. Through hands-on learning activities, we explored the importance of practicing resource circulation in daily life and discovered various local approaches to realizing a circular economy. The center not only serves as a hub for environmental education but also plays a vital role in strengthening connections within the local community.   The next stop, SuperBin IAM Factory, provided an in-depth tour of their recycling processes, advanced technologies, and state-of-the-art facilities. We witnessed smart collection systems powered by AI, automated sorting technologies, and cutting-edge resource recovery facilities, offering valuable insights into the technological advancements and practical applications of circular economy in industrial settings.   In addition, the visit included a collaborative exchange with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, fostering discussions on global perspectives on sustainability and opportunities for international cooperation.   This field experience not only deepened our practical understanding of circular economy principles but also reaffirmed the significance and potential of impactful environmental education. We look forward to continuing our efforts through collaboration with local communities and various organizations to promote a sustainable future.

Global Circular Economy Center Featured in HYPER 2025 Spring Edition

Event: Global Circular Economy Center Featured in HYPER 2025 Spring Edition Date: March 4, 2025 (Tue) Location: Hanyang University Host: Hanyang University     On March 4th, the Hanyang University Global Circular Economy Center has been featured in the 'Lab Story' section of HYPER, the official magazine of Hanyang University, in its Spring 2025 issue.    HYPER magazine highlights various research achievements and innovative activities within the university. In this article, Professor Younkyoo Kim, Ph.D. student Sujin Kang, and Master student Iju Kang participated in an interview to discuss the center’s direction and goals in response to the transition towards a ‘circular economy’ and the industrial restructuring required in the era of carbon neutrality.   Additionally, the Global Circular Economy Center was introduced as a unique institution that goes beyond traditional research. The center collaborates with international organizations and overseas institutions on joint research and projects, maintains an active record of academic publications, and works with major domestic energy companies and public institutions on energy workforce development programs. Through these initiatives, we contribute to sustainable impact expansion and network building while driving tangible change in the field.   This interview provides an in-depth discussion on carbon neutrality and the circular economy, offering valuable insights for those interested in the field. We appreciate all interests in our research lab and look forward to continued support for our future endeavors.

2025 GETPPP New Student Orientation

Event: 2025 GETPPP New Student Orientation Date: March 4, 2025 (Tue) Location: Room 251, International Building in Hanyang University Host: HYU-GETPPP   On March 4, 2025, the GETPPP New Student Orientation was successfully held. This orientation was designed to help new students smoothly transition into their academic journey by providing essential information on degree program requirements, necessary course materials, and mandatory training completion procedures. In addition, the event included a networking session where students had the opportunity to connect with one another. Coming from diverse countries and backgrounds, the new students bring their unique aspirations and ambitions to this program, striving to develop their careers and achieve their goals in a global setting. Through this orientation, students gained a deeper understanding of their new academic environment and formed meaningful bonds with their peers. We look forward to seeing them grow and succeed throughout their journey in the GETPPP program. Best wishes to all our new students!

2025 1st GETPPP Graduation Ceremony

Event: 2025 1st GETPPP Graduation Ceremony Date: February 21, 2025 (Fri) Location: Room 618, International Building in Hanyang University Host: HYU-GETPPP     On February 21st, the first GETPPP graduation ceremony was held.   The ceremony celebrated the first graduates of the GETPPP program, bringing together faculty, alumni, and the graduates' families for a meaningful gathering. The graduates, Madina, Isabel, and Jiyeon Han, were honored during the event, marking the successful completion of their journey in the program.   It began with congratulatory remarks from Professors Kim YounKyoo, Noh Dongwoon, and Park Yongduk, followed by the certificate presentation, graduate speeches, and a photo session.   Graduates and attendees shared their thoughts, enjoyed refreshments, and encouraged one another in a warm and celebratory atmosphere. Approximately 40 attendees, including the graduates' families and GETPPP members, joined the event to offer their heartfelt congratulations.   Even as the graduates return to their home countries and continue their professional careers, we hope they will remain actively engaged in GETPPP’s alumni network, fostering connections and collaborations in the future.

National Science Museum Field Trip

Event: National Science Museum Field Trip Date: February 12, 2025 (Wed) Location: National Science Museum Host: HYU-GETPPP       On February 12th, students visited the National Science Museum, a premier institution dedicated to promoting scientific knowledge and innovation. This educational field trip provided students with an opportunity to explore various scientific disciplines, from physics and biology to space exploration and emerging technologies.   At the museum, students engaged with interactive exhibits that demonstrated key scientific principles in an immersive way. They explored galleries featuring advancements in robotics, AI, and biotechnology, gaining insights into how these fields shape modern society. A highlight of the visit was the space science section, where students learned about astronomical discoveries and even experienced a virtual journey through the solar system.   This visit to the National Science Museum was an invaluable experience allowing students to deepen their understanding of science and technology while fostering a sense of curiosity and innovation. It served as a reminder of the importance of scientific exploration in shaping the future.

KIGAM Geoscience Museum Field Trip

  Event: KIGAM Geoscience Museum Field Trip Date: February 12, 2025 (Wed) Location: KIGAM Geoscience Museum in International School for Geoscience Resources Host: HYU-GETPPP     On February 12, 2025, students visited the KIGAM Geoscience Museum, Korea’s only specialized geological museum operated by the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM).    During the visit, students explored a diverse collection of rocks, minerals, and fossils from Korea and around the world, gaining insights into the geological history and transformation of the Korean Peninsula. They also deepened their knowledge of natural disasters such as earthquakes and volcanic activity through interactive learning sessions.   The visit included a virtual earthquake simulation, rock classification exercises, laboratory tours, and observations of advanced geological research equipment, allowing students to engage with geoscience in a practical and applied manner.   The experience enhanced their understanding of Korea's geological history and resource management while equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement sustainable resource management technologies and disaster mitigation strategies in real-world research and industry contexts. Moving forward, these insights will help students contribute to innovative solutions in environmental sustainability and geoscience applications.

The center showcases various renewable energy technologies and provides insightful exhibitions on the future of energy, focusing on the importance of green energy for a sustainable planet.   During the visit, students learned about Jeju’s efforts to become a leader in renewable energy, with a focus on wind, solar, and other clean energy sources. They were also introduced to smart grid technologies and energy conservation practices that are shaping the future of the global energy industry. It was an invaluable experience for the students to gain a deeper understanding of how energy solutions are evolving and the role they can play in creating a greener future.

Event: Taebaek Coal Museum Field Trip Date: November 7th, 2024 (Thur) Location: Taebaek Coal Museum Host: HYU-GETPPP     On November 7th, GETPPP students visited the Taebaek Coal Museum, a unique cultural and educational site that highlights the rich history of coal mining in Korea. This field trip offered students the opportunity to explore the historical significance of the coal industry and its impact on Korea's industrial development.  At the museum, students had the chance to learn about the history of coal mining, the technological advancements that shaped the industry, and the lives of miners who worked in Taebaek. The museum’s exhibits, including mining tools, historical photos, and interactive displays. The tour also included a visit to an underground mine replica.   This visit to the Taebaek Coal Museum was an invaluable opportunity for students to connect with Korea's industrial history and gain a deeper appreciation for the role of energy and resources in shaping society.

Yemi Lab Field Trip: Seminar and underground lab tour

Event: Yemi Lab Field Trip: Seminar and underground lab tour Date: November 7, 2024 Location: Yemi Lab - Underground Research Facility Host: 기초과학연구원(IBS), HYU-GETPPP     As part of the Global Talent Development Program, GETPPP students visited Yemi Lab in Jeongseon. Yemi Lab is a world-class underground research facility established for dark matter exploration and neutrino research. Students had the opportunity to receive an overview introduction of the research facility, including an explanation of Yemi Lab’s research objectives, ongoing projects, and notable achievements. Students explored the various research equipment and experimental processes, including visits to the AMoRE (Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay) Laboratory and the COSINE Dark Matter Detection Laboratory. After the tour, students asked their questions through an engaging Q&A session. This provided them with a comprehensive understanding of the lab's cutting-edge work in dark matter exploration and neutrino research.

Incheon Gas Science Museum and LNG Terminal Field Trip

Event: Incheon Gas Science Museum and LNG Terminal Field Trip Date: November 5, 2024 Location: Korea Gas Corporation Incheon Gas Science Museum and LNG Terminal Host: Korea Gas Corporation, HYU-GETPPP     As part of the company-involved class (IC-PBL) led by Professor Kim Yeon-gyu under the Global Talent Development Program, students visited the  Incheon Gas Science Museum and LNG Terminal. This field trip was an invaluable opportunity for students to gain firsthand knowledge of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) operations, which are critical to the country’s energy security and sustainability.  Students learned about  the scientific principles and technology of natural gas and to deepen understanding of the LNG industry such as natural gas safety management system. Also, through QNA sessions, students discussed and compared Korea's LNG industry with their own country's energy policies, and received feedback from experts.

Event: The 60th CCOP Annual Session Date: November 3~November 7, 2024 (Sun~Thur) Location: Malaysia Host: CCOP(Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and South Asia)     From November 3 to 7, 2024, Hanyang University visited in Malaysia for 60th Annual Meeting of the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programs in East and South Asia (CCOP) and to promote the GETPPP program. On November 5, during the CCOP, the Hanyang University presented its Global Energy Technology Policy Professional Program (GETPPP) to member and partner countries. Following the presentation of the CCOP-HYU GETPPP, the program's director, Professor Younkyoo Kim, led a comprehensive Q&A session.   Also, we operated a separate booth to promote the GETPPP program, which was visited by representatives from approximately 10 participating countries, such as Malaysia and Myanmar. We provided them information about 2025 fall semester admission application schedule.

They were also introduced to community engagement that have played a crucial role in the river's rehabilitation and preservation.

This visit offered the students a valuable opportunity to explore hydrogen fuel cell technologies and their practical applications.   The visit began with an overview of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstration Center’s innovative technologies and research. The students were guided through various sections of the facility, where they observed the demonstration cases.   The visit also included a Q&A session. Through this Q&A session, the students were able to gain an in-depth understanding of the demonstration of hydrogen fuel cells.
