Event: Handing Out University Varsity Jacket Date: May 10, 2024 (Fri) 14:00~15:00 Location: Hanyang University Global Climate Economy Center Host: Department of Global Climate Environment Studies in Hanyang University                 The Department of Global Climate Environment Studies at Hanyang University organized an event on May 10, 2024, to distribute varsity jackets to university students. The event aimed to celebrate the achievements and contributions of students while promoting a sense of unity and pride within the university community.   The distribution ceremony commenced at 14:00 at the Hanyang University Global Climate Economy Center. Faculty members and staff from the Department of Global Climate Environment Studies warmly welcomed the attending students as they arrived. Each student was presented with a varsity jacket personalized with their name and university logo, symbolizing their affiliation with Hanyang University and their accomplishments in their academic journey.

Event: Korean cultural experience: Traditional Korean food, miyeokguk (seaweed soup) Date: April 19, 2024 (Fri) 11:30~13:30 Location: Pungjo Miyeok Seongsu Main Branch Host: Department of Global Climate Environment Studies in Hanyang University         On April 19, 2024, the Department of Global Climate Environment Studies at Hanyang University organized a captivating event, "Korean Cultural Experience: Traditional Korean Food, Miyeokguk (Seaweed Soup)," at the renowned Pungjo Miyeok Seongsu Main Branch. This event sought to immerse participants in the rich culinary heritage of Korea by offering a taste of one of its most beloved traditional dishes.   After lunch GETPPP students gathered at Han River Park to enjoy the delightful weather together. The park provided a serene backdrop for the students to engage in various activities and foster camaraderie among themselves.

Event: GETPPP Students Group Photo Shoot Day Date: April 12, 2024 (Fri) 13:00~15:00 Location: Hanyang University History Museum Host: Department of Global Climate Environment Studies in Hanyang University            On April 12, 2024, the Department of Global Climate Environment Studies of Hanyang University hosted the GETPPP Students Group Photo Shoot Day at the Hanyang University History Museum. This event aimed to capture memorable moments and foster a sense of camaraderie among the participants. The GETPPP Students Group Photo Shoot Day commenced at 13:00, with students from various academic backgrounds gathering at the designated venue. Despite diverse cultural backgrounds, the students shared a common enthusiasm for capturing the essence of their academic journey through photography.

Event: Freshman Orientation for 2024 Spring Semester GETPPP Students Date: March 4, 2024 (Mon) Location: Room 351, International Building in Hanyang University Host: Department of Global Climate Environment Studies in Hanyang University     On March 4, 2024, the Department of Global Climate and Environmental Studies of Hanyang University held an orientation session for the new GETPPP students of 2024.   The orientation began with a warm welcome from Professor Youn-kyoo Kim. He then gave an introduction to the department and explained various curricula and research projects. The research projects presented were varied, covering topics from renewable energy technologies and conservation strategies to climate modeling and environmental policy analysis. In addition, the Orientation provided a lot of information to help the students get used to living in Korea. After the orientation, we split into teams for a campus tour.   The Orientation and Campus tour gave them the courage to start the semester and prepare for both their academic pursuits and getting used to living in Korea. We look forward to creating more memories together in the future.

Event: KOMIR seminar presentation and field trip Date: December 19, 2023 (Tue) Location: KOMIR (Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resource Corporation) Host: KOMIR, Department of Global Climate Environment Studies in Hanyang University     On Tuesday, December 19th, as part of the Corporate Participation Project lecture within the Department of Global Climate Environment Studies in Hanyang University, we went on a field trip to the headquarters of the KOMIR located in Gangwon-do.   First, the students gave presentations on the current status of core mineral recycling and circular economy conversion in their respective countries. After the presentation, we had time to discuss the current status of recycling business investment in each country with the executives and employees who were in attendance.   Afterwards, we toured the KOMIR’s analysis and evaluation laboratory, which conducts mine reclamation analysis and quality assessment, and heard an explanation of what research is being done in the laboratory. We also had time to answer questions.

Event: The second half of 2023 Global Energy Technology Policy Professional Program(GETPPP) Promotion Team Meeting Date: December 5, 2023 (Tue) Location: Lotte Hotel Seoul, Berkeley Suite Host: HYU-GETPPP     On December 5, 2023, Hanyang University convened the second half meeting for the 2023 Global Energy Technology Policy Professional Program (GETPPP) Promotion Team to review its progress and discuss its upcoming agenda. The meeting was graced by university officials and representatives from eight collaborative partner organizations. The participating entities included the Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, Korea Mine Rehabilitation and mineral Resources Corporation, Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, SK ecoplant, LG Energy Solution, Hyundai Engineering, Dansuk Industrial.   During the meeting, the GETPPP promotion team presented a progress report on the program's undertakings in the second half of 2023. Following the report, the agenda turned to strategizing the program's future activities. This discussion revolved around plans for academic delivery in the first semester of 2024, the organization of educational field trips, recruitment of new students cooperation and the development of networking seminars.   The team was committed to ensuring that all forthcoming plans align with the program's goals and deliver maximum benefits to students and stakeholders.

Event: The second half of the 2023 Korean Society of Climate Change Research Conference Date: November 22~24, 2023 (Wed~Fri) Location: Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center (HICO) Host: The Korean Society of Climate Change Research     From November 23nd to 24th, 2023, Hanyang University participated in the second half of the 2023 Korean Society of Climate Change Research Conference held at the Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center.   The delegation included Professors Younkyoo Kim and Dongwoon Noh, four Korean students from the Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies, six GETPPP participating students, and two supervisors.   On Friday, November 24th, Hanyang University was held a planned session with the theme "Greenhouse Gas Decomposition Analysis and Circular Economy," during which ten students from the Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies delivered oral presentations.   Through this conference, meaningful discussions were held on research related to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the concept of circular economy. We look forward to more opportunities for exchange and collaboration at future conferences.

Event: The 59th CCOP Annual Session Date: October 28~November 3, 2023 (Sat~Fri) Location: Thailand Host: CCOP(Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and South Asia)     From October 28th to November 3rd, 2023, Hanyang University visited Thailand for the 59th CCOP Annual Session and to promote the GETPPP program. During the 59th CCOP Annual Session, we participated in discussions regarding the progress of the CCOP activities in the first half of 2023 and other important agenda items. On the 31st, they conducted a presentation during Agenda Item 4.2 session to promote the GETPPP (Global Energy Technology Policy Professional Program) program and provide information on recruitment guidelines to member and collaborating countries.   During this CCOP annual session, we operated a separate booth to promote the GETPPP program, which was visited by representatives from approximately 16 participating countries, including energy ministry officials from countries such as Thailand and Malaysia. We provided them information about 2024 spring semester admission application schedule.   As a result, not only did the Thai government officials, the hosts of the event, respond positively, but also numerous countries, including Malaysia's state-owned energy company Petronas, showed great interest and positive feedback.

Event: SK ecoplant field trip and seminar presentation Date: October 24, 2023 (Tue) 10:00~11:30 Location: SK ecoplant Host: SK ecoplant, Department of Global Climate Environment Studies in Hanyang University     On Tuesday, October 24th, as part of the Corporate Participation Project lecture within the Department of Global Climate Environment Studies in Hanyang University, we visited the headquarters of SK ecoplant.   Initially, we had the opportunity to experience the company's facilities and receive education on the direction and vision pursued by the company, which is a leading figure in the field of battery recycling and circular economy.   Subsequently, students delivered presentations on the status of renewable energy in their respective countries and the current state of green hydrogen, fostering discussions on national energy development trends and factors that companies consider when entering these markets.

Event: GETPPP Culture Experience: Kim You-Jung Station, Railbike, Nami Island Date: October 19, 2023 (Thu) 08:30-19:30 Location: Chuncheon, Gangwon Province Host: HYU-GETPPP     On Thursday, October 19th, students from Hanyang University's GETPPP program embarked on a cultural experience trip to Chuncheon in Gangwon Province. The day's itinerary included a visit to Kim You-Jung Station, followed by a Railbike experience and a visit to Nami Island.   Visiting Kim You-Jung Station and trying the Railbike, gave us a peek into the historical charm and beauty of Chuncheon. Relaxing and enjoying the scenery at Nami Island was a truly special experience.   It was a precious time during which we could create new memories and experiences in Korea through diverse cultural activities.

Event: Visit to Korean Gas Safety Corporation’s Hydrogen Safety Museum and Energy Safety Demonstration Research Center Date: October 17, 2023 (Tue) 08:30-19:30 Location: Hydrogen Safety Museum(Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province), KSG Energy Safety Demonstration Research Center(Yeongwol, Gangwon Province) Host: HYU-GETPPP, Department of Global Climate Environment Studies in Hanyang University     On Tuesday, October 17, as part of the Corporate Participation Project lecture, the Department of Global Climate and Environmental Studies in Hanyang University visited the Hydrogen Safety Museum and the Energy Safety DemonstrationResearch Center. The Hydrogen Safety Museum and the Energy Safety DemonstrationResearch Center are hydrogen safety facilities operated by the Korea Gas Safety Corporation. The event had a total of 17 participants, including Professor Younkyoo Kim, students from the Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies, and students participating in GETPPP.   At the Hydrogen Safety Museum located in Eumseong, Chungbuk Province, participants watched promotional videos and received explanations about hydrogen safety. They also explored the museum and directly experienced the hydrogen safety facilities.   In the Energy Safety Demonstration Research Center located in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, participants toured the hydrogen product testing facilities and shared information about the current status of hydrogen safety infrastructure and safety management policies.

Events: Korean history and culture experience: Gyeongbokgung Palace and the National Museum of Korea Date: September 21, 2023 (Thu) 10:00-15:00 Location: Gyeongbokgung Palace and the National Museum of Korea Host: HYU-GETPPP, Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies in Hanyang University      On September 21st, students from Hanyang University's GETPPP visited the famous Gyeongbokgung Palace and the National Museum of Korea. The trip aimed to help students learn more about Korean history and culture and to make their time in Korea more enriching. The group got to see the beautiful and intricate buildings from the Joseon Dynasty at Gyeongbokgung Palace, which fascinated everyone.   At the National Museum of Korea, students had fun, interactive history lessons and discovered more about Korea's colorful past. They saw old artifacts and exhibits, which told stories about different times in Korean history and helped them appreciate Korean culture more. Mixing traditional learning with hands-on experiences made the students more curious and helped them understand Korea’s history better.   In conclusion, the trip was more than just a learning experience; it was like traveling back in time. It helped GETPPP students feel more connected to Korea's history and broadened their view of the world.

Event: Welcoming event for the freshmen of the 2023 Fall semester Date: September 5, 2023 (Tue) 11:30-13:00 Location: Korean restaurant (BaekeokHanu) Host: Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies in Hanyang University     On September 5th, Hanyang University's Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies held a welcoming event for the 2023 Fall semester freshmen.   The event was graced by Professor Younkyoo Kim, students from the Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies, and participants from the Global Energy Technology Policy Professional Program (GETPPP). This was the first gathering since the semester's inception, fostering warm exchanges between Professor Kim, freshmen, and current students.   Held at a traditional Korean restaurant, attendees were introduced to Korean culinary delights such as bulgogi, doenjang jjigae, and grilled mackerel.   Professor Kim expressed his hopes for everyone to swiftly adjust to life and studies in Korea.

Event: Exploring Korean Culinary Traditions: A Summer Break Experience in 2023 Date: July 27, 2023 (Thur) 12:00-14:00 Location: Sinchon Hyeongje Galbi Host: HY-GETPPP, Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies in Hanyang University     On July 27, 2023, Hanyang University held the "GETPPP Korean Food Culture Experience" for their summer break session. The venue was the Sinchon Hyeongje Galbi, where GETPPP students, along with students from the Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies, enjoyed the experience under the guidance of Professor Younkyoo Kim.   They savored Galbi, a classic Korean dish of grilled beef ribs, gaining firsthand insight into Korean culinary tradition. According to Professor Kim, "Food symbolizes the culture of a nation. This experience should help broaden our cultural understanding."   The Korean food culture experience is an innovative part of the GETPPP program, balancing study with cultural exploration. This approach not only keeps students academically engaged but also enables them to appreciate local Korean culture.

The meeting was graced by university officials and representatives from eight collaborative partner organizations. The participating entities included the Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, Korea Mine Rehabilitation and mineral Resources Corporation, Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, SK ecoplant, LG Energy Solution, Hyundai Engineering, Dansuk Industrial.   During the meeting, the GETPPP promotion team presented a progress report on the program's undertakings in the first half of 2023. Event: Spring Semester Farewell Dinner: Celebrating Academic Achievements Date: June 19, 2023 (Mon) 18:20-20:30 Location: Forsitta Host: Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies in Hanyang University       On June 19, Hanyang University's Department of International Studies organized a dinner party to commemorate the end of the spring semester. The event took place at a nearby restaurant, Forsitta with students who had enrolled in the "Environmental Economics" and "Analytical Method for the Energy Technology Policies" courses. Notably, participants also included students from GETPPP and the Department of Global Climate Environmental.   During the gathering, Professor Dong-woon Roh expressed his gratitude towards his diligent students who actively participated in both courses. He commended their efforts and extended his wishes that the knowledge gained from these classes would prove valuable in their future endeavors in environmental and energy studies.

Event: GETPPP cultural experience in the first half of 2023 Date: June 2, 2023 (Fri) Location: Seoul Forest Park Host: HYU-GETPPP    14:30-17:00   On June 2nd, Hanyang University successfully conducted the "GETPPP Cultural Experience" for the semester. This event was planned to help students associated with GETPPP and the Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies relieve academic pressure and enjoy some downtime. Students explored local cuisine and took some time to take photos at Seoul Forest Park, a popular attraction close to the university.   A student from the Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies expressed their joy at the opportunity to explore off-campus environments. They found value in sharing their study experiences with fellow students in a refreshing and unfamiliar setting.   The GETPPP Cultural Experience, in its successful blending of relaxation, cultural exposure, and knowledge sharing, provides our students with a welcome escape from their demanding academic schedules. This unique approach ensures that our students not only thrive academically but also appreciate the beauty and diversity of local culture.

Event: Hanyang University Spring Festival Date: May 24-26 2023 (Wed-Fri) Place: Hanyang University Central Square Host: Hanyang University        Hanyang University celebrated its vibrant spring festival, RACHIOS, from May 24th to 26th. The event was marked by an array of student-centric activities, including a music festival featuring invited singers, departmental club promotions, event booths, and pubs. Among the participants were students from the Global Energy Technology Policy Professional Program (GETPPP), who gathered at the booth run by the international department. The students shared various Korean foods and exchanged their experiences in Korea.   Adding to the enriching experience, experts from industry and energy-related institutions were invited. This provided students with a unique opportunity to learn about and engage in discussions on the energy policy industry.

Event: Freshman Orientation for 2023 Spring Semester GETPPP and Global Climate Students  Date: March 9, 2023 (Thur) Place: Chinese restaurant (Yilyilhyang) Host: Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies in Hanyang University     On March 9, 2023, Hanyang University conducted a freshman orientation for students enrolled in the Global Energy Technology Policy Professional Programme (GETPPP) and the Department of Global Climate Environmental Studies. The orientation was held at Il-Il Hyang Chinese restaurant near the university campus and was attended by incoming students for the spring 2023 semester, both for GETPPP and Global Climate Environmental Studies master's program. Younkyoo Kim, Director of GETPPP, also graced the occasion.   Marking the first gathering of its kind, the orientation aimed to foster a mutual exchange of cultural understanding. Students shared their national cultures, languages, and cuisines, while also gaining insights into Korean culture through elements such as K-POP and K-DRAMA.   Professor Younkyoo Kim expressed hopes that the orientation would solidify bonds among GETPPP participants and international students, thereby facilitating a smoother transition into academic life. He emphasized that the GETPPP is designed to cultivate an international mindset among students by imparting valuable knowledge and experiences. This, in turn, will equip students with the necessary skill set to study energy technologies and policies on a global scale.

Event: 2022 Hanyang University Kick-off Meeting for GETPPP Date: December 02, 2022 (Sat) 17:00-19:30 Place: Sogong-dong Lotte Hotel Berkeley Sweet Host: Hanyang University GETPPP Business Group       On December 2, 2022, Hanyang University convened the 2022 Global Energy Technology Policy Professional Program (GETPPP) Promotion Team Meeting along with a kick-off meeting. This event was dedicated to reviewing the progress of the GETPPP project and addressing key agenda items. University officials, alongside representatives from eight collaborating organizations*, attended the event.   The agenda commenced with an opening address, followed by a congratulatory speech by Chairman Lee Bae-yong. This led to the presentation of a progress report on the Hanyang University GETPPP, which was followed by introductions from participating institutions and a discourse on international trends in securing key minerals. Discussions included the formation and management of the Human Resources Development Promotion Committee, the selection and recommendation of trainees for the second half of 2023, and engagement in hands-on education at the partner institutions.
